On Saturday, May 20, 2023, Ronkonkoma Rotary will be hosting a food drive at Meat Farms in Ronkonkoma, as well as, performing a variety of farm work, including planting, weeding, harvesting, working in the greenhouse, property maintenance for Bethel Hobbs Community Farm for its Rotary Day of Service.
Volunteers are asked to wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty, wear closed toed shoes, and bring a pair of gardening or work gloves with them. Volunteers will need to fill out a waiver on site to participate.
Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is a cooperative gardening project that has grown to over five acres and donates an average of 30,000 lbs. of fresh, organically grown produce to several local food pantries and soup kitchens. Ronkonkoma Rotary will distribute some of this produce later this year through the soup kitchen they operate every first and third Wednesday of the month at the Association of Mental Health and Wellness in Ronkonkoma.
